Coupon terms and conditions template and generator
Enter your coupon's settings and copy its terms three ways: a one-line fine print for next to the offer, a full paragraph for your terms page, and each clause explained. The fields follow Wix's coupon settings, and a spin-to-win preset covers prize games.
Each clause, explained
Open a clause to see why it's there and the Wix setting that makes it true. The list follows the terms above.
Use code WELCOME15 for 15% off orders over $40.
Matches Apply to: Minimum order subtotal. Wix offers it in the same menu as products and categories, so a coupon has either a minimum or a product limit, not both. Wix: price discount coupons.
Valid until December 31, 2026.
Wix ends a coupon at the time of day it was created, in your time zone: one created at 7:40 PM with a July 31 end date stops working at 7:40 PM on July 31. Put that time in the terms, or end the coupon a day after the date you promise. Wix: limiting coupon usage.
Limit one use per customer.
Matches Limit to one use per customer. It doesn't keep the code to new customers: Wix can't limit a coupon to first-time customers. Wix: coupons for first-time customers.
One code per order.
Always true on Wix: shoppers can't apply more than one coupon at a time. Wix: applying multiple coupons.
No cash value: the discount can't be exchanged for cash or store credit.
It changes nothing at checkout. It settles in advance that an unused code can't be swapped for money or store credit.
What should coupon terms and conditions include?
Coupon terms should say what the code gives, what it applies to, the minimum spend, when it ends, how often it can be used and how it combines with other discounts: the same rules the coupon enforces at checkout. When the two match, a shopper never learns the rules from an error message.
- The offer. 15% off, $10 off or free shipping, and whether a discount covers one item or every eligible item.
- What it covers. All products, one product, a category, or orders over a minimum subtotal.
- The dates. When it starts and ends. Wix ends a coupon at the time of day it was created, so add the time if it matters.
- The limits. One use per customer, or a cap on total uses.
- Other discounts. One code per order, and whether it adds to automatic discounts or skips sale items.
- The basics. No cash value, and where the full terms live.
Make the coupon match its terms
Every line in the terms should be something the coupon itself does. Here's each common line and the Wix setting that makes it true.
| Line in your terms | Wix setting | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Min purchase $40 | Apply to: Minimum order subtotal | It sits in the same menu as products and categories, so a coupon has a minimum or a product limit, not both. |
| Candles only | Apply to: Specific product or Specific category | For a group of products, Wix suggests a category made for the offer; it doesn't have to show on your site. |
| One item per order | Apply once per order | Discounts only the lowest-priced eligible item. The other choice, Apply to each eligible item in the order, discounts them all. |
| One use per customer | Limit to one use per customer | Doesn't keep the code to new customers: Wix can't limit a coupon to first-time customers. |
| First 100 uses | Limit the total number of uses for this coupon | Counts every order that uses the code, from anyone. Leave it off a prize code that every winner shares. |
| Ends Dec 31 | The coupon's end date | Ends at the time of day the coupon was created, in your time zone. |
| One code per order | None: it's Wix's own rule | Shoppers can't apply more than one coupon at a time. |
| Can be combined with automatic discounts | None: it's Wix's own rule | A coupon and an automatic discount both apply to the same order. |
| Excludes sale items | Apply to: a category of full-price products | Wix's help center describes no sale-item setting, so limit the coupon this way, then test a sale item in your cart. |
| Least expensive item free | A Buy X get Y free coupon | In Wix's Buy X get Y free coupon, the least expensive item is the free one. |
Coupon terms and conditions examples
Three common coupons, written by the generator above. Copy the wording, or change the fields to match your own coupon.
A welcome code with a minimum order
Min purchase $40 · One use per customer · Ends Dec 31
Use code WELCOME15 for 15% off orders over $40. Valid until December 31, 2026. Limit one use per customer. One code per order. No cash value: the discount can't be exchanged for cash or store credit.
In Wix: a % Discount coupon with Apply to set to Minimum order subtotal of $40, an end date, and Limit to one use per customer.
Free shipping over $50, with no end date
Min purchase $50
Use code SHIP50 for free shipping on orders over $50. One code per order. No cash value: the discount can't be exchanged for cash or store credit.
In Wix: a Free shipping coupon with Apply to set to Minimum order subtotal of $50, and Don't set an end date ticked. For free shipping over $50 without any code, a shipping rule does the same job.
A Black Friday code that skips sale items
Our candles only · One use per customer · Excludes sale items · Ends Dec 4
Use code BFCM20 for 20% off our candles. Valid until December 4, 2026. Limit one use per customer. One code per order. Not valid on items already on sale. No cash value: the discount can't be exchanged for cash or store credit.
In Wix: a % Discount coupon whose Apply to is a category holding only full-price candles, which is what makes the sale-items line true, with an end date and Limit to one use per customer.
Spin-to-win terms and conditions template
A spin-to-win pop-up's terms should say who can play, that prizes have different chances, how long a won prize can be claimed, and the rules of the codes behind the prizes, with a link to the full terms near the wheel. Here's what the generator writes for a five-prize wheel:
No purchase needed · Prizes have different chances · Claim within 24 hours · Codes end Dec 31 · Terms: yourstore.com/spin-terms
Spin-to-win terms
Who can play. Anyone visiting our website can play. No purchase is needed to play.
Prizes. Every spin wins one of these prizes: Free shipping (40% chance), 10% off (30% chance), Free sample (20% chance), $10 off orders over $60 (8% chance), Free full-size product (2% chance).
Claiming a prize. To claim a prize, sign up in the pop-up within 24 hours of revealing it. Your code then shows on screen.
Using your code. Each prize is a discount code, valid until December 31, 2026 and limited to one use per customer. One code per order. A prize's own conditions, such as a minimum order, are shown with the prize.
No cash value. Prizes have no cash value and can't be exchanged for cash or store credit.

Making every spin a winner doesn't settle the legal side on its own: which prize a shopper gets is still down to chance. The guide to promotion rules for prize wheels explains prize, chance and consideration, and when a valuable headline prize brings extra rules. This is general information, not legal advice, so check the rules where you sell.
In Spin Wheel, each prize is one of your store's coupons, and our servers draw it from the chances you set, so the chances in your terms can match the game exactly. See how the spin-to-win pop-up works, or start from a spin-to-win template by occasion.
Where to put coupon terms
- Next to the offer. The one-line fine print goes where the shopper sees the offer: under a pop-up's button, on a banner, beside the code in an email.
- On a page of its own. The full terms go on a page of your site, linked from the fine print and your footer.
- With the code. Wherever a code is shown or sent, repeat its end date and minimum, so a shopper who saves it still knows the rules later.
Prizes that follow your coupon's rules
Spin Wheel puts your store's coupons on a spin-to-win wheel, scratch card or gift box, so every prize code works at checkout under the settings you chose. Free forever.

Coupon terms, answered
What does "no cash value" mean on a coupon?
It means the coupon only takes money off an order: it can't be swapped for cash or store credit. Saying so in the terms settles a request to cash in an unused code before it comes up.
Can a Wix coupon say it can't be combined with other offers?
Only where that's true at checkout. On Wix a shopper can apply one coupon per order, so "one code per order" is always accurate, but a coupon still applies on top of an automatic discount (Wix help). If you run automatic discounts and don't want codes to add to them, limit the coupon to products the automatic discount doesn't cover.
Do I need terms and conditions for a discount code?
Clear terms help even where nothing requires them: they settle questions like whether a code works on sale items before a shopper asks. Whether the law requires terms, and what they must say, depends on where you sell. This page is general information, not legal advice.
Is this a sweepstakes or official rules template?
No. It writes terms for a discount code, and for a spin-to-win pop-up where every play wins a discount. A sweepstakes, contest or prize draw has its own rules, which vary by country and state, so ask a lawyer for those. For the draw itself, the free raffle winner picker draws winners and alternates from a list of entrants.
