Coupon code name ideas, plus a free generator

Pick an occasion and an offer, add your store's name if you like, and get 20 code names that are easy to read and type, each checked against Wix's limit of 20 characters. The generator follows fixed word lists, not AI.

Your code

10 characters: within Wix's limit of 20.

Ideas come from fixed word lists for each occasion and tone, joined by set rules in your browser. Nothing you type leaves the page.

What makes a good coupon code name?

A good coupon code says what it gives, is short enough to type on a phone, and is hard to guess if it isn't meant for everyone. On Wix it also has to fit in 20 characters and differ from every other coupon code on your site.

  • It says the offer. SHIP50 or HELLO15 tells shoppers what to expect before they reach checkout.
  • It's short. Codes get typed on phones and read off cards and screens, so a word and a number is plenty.
  • It reads one way. A real word is hard to misread. Random characters aren't, which is why the generator's tails leave out vowels, 0, 1 and L.
  • It's hard to guess when it's for a group. A code for subscribers, winners or regulars gets a short random tail.
  • It fits Wix. Up to 20 characters and unique on your site. Wix codes aren't case sensitive, so hello15 works as well as HELLO15.

Should a coupon code be easy to guess?

Only when you want everyone to have it. A code on your homepage banner or in an ad is public anyway, so a plain word like BFCM25 is fine. A code meant for one group, such as pop-up winners or your email list, works for anyone who guesses it, and WELCOME10 is an easy guess.

A short random tail fixes that without losing the meaning: SPIN10-K7Q still reads as 10% off from a spin. The generator's tails use 28 letters and digits, so three characters give 28 × 28 × 28 = 21,952 possible tails for each name.

A tail stops guessing, not sharing. Once someone posts a code, anyone can use it, so the coupon behind it needs an end date and Limit to one use per customer; the guide to keeping shared prize codes from leaking covers the settings. For codes made one per person, the coupon code generator makes up to 1,000 random ones at a time for Wix's Bulk Coupon Creator.

Welcome discount code ideas

A welcome code works best when it says hello and the offer in one word, like HELLO15 or FIRST10, so a new subscriber knows what they got before checkout.

  • HELLO15: friendly and short, for 15% off a first order.
  • FIRST10: says it's meant for a first order, though Wix can't enforce that.
  • JOIN15: suits a code shown right after an email sign-up.
  • NEWHERE10: reads as a greeting and is easy to say out loud.
  • WELCOME15-K7Q: the classic, with a short tail so nobody can guess it.

Wix can't limit a coupon to first-time customers, its help center says, so give a welcome coupon an end date and Limit to one use per customer. First-order discounts on Wix covers the workarounds.

Spin-wheel prize code ideas

Name each prize code after the game and the prize, like SPINSHIP or WHEEL10, and add a short tail: everyone who wins a prize shares its code, so it should be easy to read and hard to guess.

  • SPINSHIP-M4X: free shipping won on the wheel.
  • WHEEL10-P7R: 10% off from the wheel.
  • LUCKY15-D3N: a mid prize.
  • TOPPRIZE-H8K: the rare headline prize.
  • SPINNOV-T6W: the month in the code, for prize coupons you swap each month.

In Spin Wheel, each prize is one of your store's coupons, and every winner of that prize gets its code. Give each prize coupon an end date and Limit to one use per customer, and leave the total-use limit off. How prize codes work explains why.

Free shipping code ideas

A free shipping code is clearest when it names the threshold, like SHIP50 for free shipping over $50, so nobody is surprised at checkout.

  • SHIP50: free shipping on orders over $50.
  • FREESHIP: the classic, fine for a code you post publicly.
  • SHIPFREE-Q8P: the same idea for a group, with a tail.
  • ONUS35: a playful way to say shipping's on us over $35.
  • BREWSHIP: a store word plus SHIP, from our sample coffee shop.

Wix's free shipping coupons work only with Wix Stores, on all orders or above a minimum order subtotal (Wix help). To give every order over an amount free shipping with no code at all, use a shipping rule: see free shipping over a set amount, and work out the amount with the free shipping threshold calculator.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday code ideas

Black Friday codes are usually public, so plain and memorable beats clever: BFCM25, BLACKFRIDAY26 or CYBER20 say the event and the deal.

  • BFCM25: 25% off across the weekend.
  • BLACKFRIDAY26: the year makes last year's code easy to spot.
  • CYBER20: a Cyber Monday offer.
  • DOORBUSTER: for an early-hours offer.
  • BLACKTIE30: a polished name for a premium store.

Wix applies a coupon on top of an automatic discount (Wix help), so a Black Friday code meets your automatic sale prices. Keep code offers small or limit them to full-price products, as the Black Friday and holiday guide shows, and see the Black Friday spin wheel template.

Halloween coupon code ideas

Halloween codes can be as playful as the season: BOO10, SPOOKY15 or TREAT20, with the year added if you run one every October.

  • BOO10: short enough for a social post.
  • SPOOKY15: the obvious word, which suits a public code.
  • TREAT20: pairs well with a free treat or sample.
  • FANGTASTIC: playful, for a free gift with an order.
  • HALLOWEEN26: the year tells this October's code from last year's.

Put the year in a code you run every October, so an old one that turns up on a deal site is easy to recognize, and end the coupon with the season.

Christmas and holiday promo code ideas

Holiday codes can carry the season and the gift: JOY15, MERRY20, GIFTED10, or SLEIGHSHIP for free shipping.

  • JOY15: short and warm.
  • MERRY20: Christmas without spelling it out.
  • GIFTED10: for shoppers buying for someone else.
  • SLEIGHSHIP: free shipping while delivery in time is still possible.
  • COCOA10: a cozy, playful name.

After your carrier's last send-by date, swap a free shipping code for a discount, and switch holiday codes off after December 26. The holiday pop-up ideas have the dates, and the holiday gifting template has a prize mix.

Valentine's Day discount code ideas

Valentine's codes can be sweet without being long: LOVE15, XOXO10 or BEMINE20, ended once delivery by February 14 is in doubt.

  • LOVE15: the plain version.
  • XOXO10: playful and short.
  • BEMINE20: for a bigger gift offer.
  • CUPIDSHIP: free shipping on gifts.
  • TREATYOURSELF: for shoppers buying for themselves.

End a gift code on your last guaranteed delivery day; a treat-yourself code can run through the 14th. The Valentine's Day template has a prize mix.

Birthday coupon code ideas

A birthday code goes to one person, so it can be warm and personal: HBD15, YOURDAY20 or CAKE10, ideally a code for each customer.

  • HBD15: short for a text or a small card.
  • YOURDAY20: personal without using a name.
  • CAKE10: playful.
  • CHEERS15: polished.
  • BDAYGIFT: for a free gift with the next order.

Wix's automation builder can create a unique single-use code each time an automation runs (Wix help), so a code sent that way works once. To make a birthday code a surprise, hide it under the foil of a digital scratch card and send the link.

Abandoned cart and win-back code ideas

A cart or win-back code should read as a nudge, not a markdown: COMEBACK10, MISSYOU15 or YOURCART5, sent to one person rather than posted.

  • COMEBACK10: for a customer who hasn't ordered in a while.
  • MISSYOU15: warmer, for a win-back email.
  • YOURCART5: a small nudge in a cart reminder.
  • STILLYOURS: a polished name for a free shipping reminder.
  • WELCOMEBACK20: for a lapsed customer's return.

Wix's automation builder can send a discount email with a unique single-use code, and Wix's own example is a shopper who adds items to the cart and leaves without buying (Wix help). To have the reminders written and sent for you, myuser.ai on the Wix App Market sends cart reminders, and these abandoned cart subject lines help with the email itself.

VIP and loyal customer code ideas

Codes for regulars should feel like a thank-you: VIP15, INSIDER20 or THANKYOU10, with a tail so only the people you send it to have it.

  • VIP15-B6K: a group code with a tail.
  • INSIDER20: for an early-access sale.
  • THANKYOU10: plain and warm.
  • CLUB15: for a loyalty list.
  • MEMBERSONLY: a polished name for a private offer.

To give each regular a code of their own, Wix's Bulk Coupon Creator copies one coupon into up to 1,000 coupons with unique codes (Wix help), and the coupon code generator makes the codes.

Creator and partner code ideas

Give each creator or partner a code with their name, like MAYA15, so the code on an order tells you who sent the customer.

  • MAYA15: a name and the discount, the usual format.
  • FROMMAYA10: says who sent the shopper.
  • TEAMMAYA: playful, for a creator's community.
  • MAYAPICKS: for a creator's own selection.
  • MAYASENTME: a name shoppers remember to type.

Make one coupon per creator, so each creator's orders are easy to tell apart and you can end one code without touching the others.

Sorry-for-the-wait code ideas

An apology code should sound like a person, not a promotion: SORRY15, THANKYOU10 or OURBAD, sent only to the customers who waited.

  • SORRY15: plain and direct.
  • THANKYOU10: thanks them for their patience.
  • OURBAD: playful, for a small slip.
  • PATIENCE20: for a long wait.
  • MAKEITRIGHT: for a bigger problem.

Send it only to the people affected. A unique single-use code from Bulk Coupon Creator can't spread; a shared one needs Limit to one use per customer and an end date soon after.

Questions

Coupon code names, answered

What's a good name for a discount code?

A short word that says what it gives, plus the amount: HELLO15 for 15% off a first order, SHIP50 for free shipping over $50. For a code meant for a group rather than everyone, add a three-character tail, like HELLO15-K7Q, so nobody can guess it.

Should a coupon code include the discount amount?

Yes, when shoppers will see the code: it tells them what to expect, and a code that says 15 but takes off 10 is easy to spot before it reaches a customer. If you change the offer, make a new code rather than changing the discount behind an old one.

How many characters can a Wix coupon code have?

Up to 20. Wix's developer reference for coupons caps a code at 20 characters and says it must be unique among all the coupons on your site, and its Bulk Coupon Creator app takes codes of up to 20 too. Codes aren't case sensitive, so HELLO15 and hello15 are the same code.

Does this tool use AI?

No. It joins fixed word lists for each occasion and tone with your offer and store word in set patterns, and adds a random tail if you ask. It runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
