Random raffle picker

Paste your entrants one per line or as a CSV, give bonus entries if you like, and draw winners and alternates with no repeats. The draw uses your browser's secure random numbers, and nothing you paste is stored or sent.

Entrants

How the list is written

12 names, 12 entries.

Spin these names on the prize wheel

Draw

Winners show here, in the order they're drawn. Each name can win once, and alternates come after the winners, in order.

The draw runs in your browser with its cryptographic random numbers. Nothing you paste or open is sent or saved, so copy the results before you leave.

How do you pick a random winner from a list?

Paste the names, one per line, choose how many winners to draw and press Pick winners. Each name can win once, and every entry has the same chance, so a name with three entries is three times as likely to be drawn first as a name with one.

  • Paste or open the list. One name per line, or a CSV file or columns copied from a spreadsheet; then choose the column with the names.
  • Decide on repeats. Count once gives every name one entry. Add up turns repeated lines, or an entries column, into bonus entries.
  • Set winners and alternates. Alternates are drawn after the winners, in order, for a winner who doesn't reply.
  • Pick and copy. Press Pick winners, then Copy results for a list with the date and time of the draw.
  • Prefer a wheel? A list of up to 40 names opens in the prize wheel spinner, one slice per name, with each winner taken off after the spin.

Run a lucky draw from a list

A lucky draw works like a raffle: every entry has a chance, and names come out at random, one per prize.

  1. Add the entries. Paste one name per line, or open a CSV file, such as the submissions from a Wix form.
  2. Set one winner per prize. Winners are listed in the order they're drawn, so the first name takes the first prize. Add alternates for winners who don't reply.
  3. Draw where people can see it. Press Pick winners on a call or a stream, then Copy results for a list with the date and time of the draw.
Tip: Entries from a Wix form? In your dashboard, go to Forms & Submissions, open the form's More Actions menu and choose View submissions, then select the submissions and click Export to save them as a CSV file, as Wix's help center describes. Open the file here with CSV columns and pick a column that's different for every entrant, such as email, so two people with the same first name don't count as one.

How do bonus entries work?

Each entry is one chance in the draw. With Ava on 3 entries and Ben and Chloe on 1 each, there are 5 entries, so Ava's chance of being drawn first is 3 in 5, or 60%, and Ben's and Chloe's are 1 in 5, or 20%, each. Once a name wins, all of its entries leave the draw: if Ava wins first, Ben and Chloe each have 1 in 2 for the next place.

Is the raffle picker really random?

Yes. Each draw uses crypto.getRandomValues, your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, and throws away the rare values that would favor some entries over others, so every entry has exactly the same chance. Nothing is saved, so if entrants want to see a fair draw, pick the winners live on a call or a stream, or record your screen.

Running a giveaway?

Publish simple rules before you draw: who can enter, how bonus entries are earned, what each prize is, when entries close and how winners are contacted. In the US, a promotion with a prize, chance and consideration, such as a required purchase, is generally a lottery, and a legitimate sweepstakes usually removes consideration; the guide to promotion rules for prize wheels has the sources. This is general information, not legal advice, so check the rules where you run the giveaway.

Questions

Raffle picker questions, answered

Can a raffle picker give some people more entries?

Yes. Under Repeated names, choose Add up, and a name on three lines gets three entries. In a CSV, pick an entries column instead, and each row counts that many times. More entries means a better chance of being drawn, but a name still wins only once.

Can the same person win twice?

No. Once a name is drawn, all of its entries leave the draw, so every winner and alternate is a different name. Names match whatever their capitals or spacing, so Ava and ava count as one person.

How do I pick a winner from an Excel or Google Sheets list?

Copy the column of names and paste it here, one per line. For several columns, choose CSV columns and paste the block, which arrives with tabs between the cells, or save the sheet as a CSV file and open it. Then pick the column that holds the names.

Is my list saved or sent anywhere?

No. The list stays in your browser: a file you open is read there, and nothing you paste is sent to our servers or saved. Copy the results before you leave the page, since closing it clears them.

How many names can it draw from?

Up to 20,000 lines, with up to 1,000 winners and 1,000 alternates in one draw. The prize wheel spinner holds up to 40 names, so longer lists are drawn here.

Is a lucky draw the same as a raffle?

They work the same way: entries go into a draw and winners are picked at random, and this picker runs either. What differs is the rules, which vary by country and by how people enter. In the US, for example, a prize draw that needs a purchase to enter is generally a lottery, as the section on running a giveaway explains. This is general information, not legal advice, so check the rules where you run the draw.
